2. Download the Installer
Click the Download button
Use the orange Download Now button at the top of this page, or visit our Pricing section and choose Free Edition.
You will be redirected to GitHub Releases — our official, virus-scanned distribution mirror. The download starts automatically.
Wait for the file to finish
The file WarehouseManagement.exe is approximately 89 MB. On a typical broadband connection it takes 1–3 minutes. The browser will save it to your Downloads folder by default.
Locate the file
Open File Explorer → Downloads. You should see WarehouseManagement.exe. Double-click it to launch.
3. Bypass the Windows SmartScreen Warning
β οΈ Why does Windows show a warning? SmartScreen flags every executable from publishers without a code-signing certificate. As a young indie product, we have not yet purchased one (~$200/year). The warning does not mean SmartWMS contains malware — every file we ship is virus-scanned and identical to what you see on GitHub.
When you double-click WarehouseManagement.exe for the first time, you will likely see this dialog:
π‘οΈ Windows protected your PC
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk.
App: WarehouseManagement.exe
Publisher: Unknown publisher
How to safely allow SmartWMS to run:
Click "More info"
This small link is at the top of the dialog, just below the title. It is easy to miss.
A new button appears: "Run anyway"
Click it. The dialog closes and SmartWMS launches normally.
β This is a one-time step. Windows remembers your decision — you will not see the warning again for this version. As more users install SmartWMS, Microsoft's reputation system automatically removes the warning for everyone.
4. First-Time Launch
The very first time SmartWMS opens, it will:
- Create a local SQLite database in
%APPDATA%\SmartWMS\. This file holds all your inventory data and never leaves your PC unless you choose to back it up. - Show the language selector. Choose English or δΈζ (Chinese). You can change this later in Settings → Language.
- Open the dashboard with sample data so you can explore. To start fresh, click Settings → Reset Sample Data.
π Need a quick tour? Download the bilingual user manual from our Releases page:

5. Troubleshooting
My antivirus quarantined the file. Is SmartWMS safe?
Yes. False positives are common for new, unsigned executables — especially with Avast, AVG, and McAfee. Our installer is identical to the file hosted on GitHub Releases, where you can verify the SHA-256 hash. To resolve:
- Open your antivirus quarantine list.
- Find
WarehouseManagement.exeand choose Restore or Add to Exclusions. - Re-launch SmartWMS.
If you would prefer to verify before running, scan the file at virustotal.com — it aggregates 70+ antivirus engines.
The app won't open / crashes immediately on launch.
Most often this is caused by missing Visual C++ runtime libraries on older Windows installations. Fix:
- Download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64).
- Restart Windows.
- Re-launch SmartWMS.
Still failing? Email hello@digitall-technology.uk with your Windows version and any error message.
"Access denied" or permission errors when saving data.
SmartWMS writes its database to %APPDATA%\SmartWMS\. Make sure your user account has write access to this folder. On corporate / school PCs, your IT department may have locked this path — in that case, run SmartWMS from a folder you control (e.g. your Desktop) rather than Program Files.
How do I move my data to another PC?
SmartWMS is fully portable. To migrate:
- On the old PC, copy the entire
%APPDATA%\SmartWMS\folder to a USB drive. - On the new PC, install SmartWMS, then close it.
- Replace the new PC's
%APPDATA%\SmartWMS\folder with the copy from your USB drive. - Re-open SmartWMS — all your data is back.
How do I uninstall SmartWMS?
SmartWMS is a portable application — there is no installer, so there is nothing to "uninstall" in the traditional sense:
- Delete
WarehouseManagement.exefrom wherever you saved it. - To also remove your database, delete the folder
%APPDATA%\SmartWMS\.
That's it — nothing was added to your registry or system folders.
Is there a Mac or Linux version?
Not yet. SmartWMS is currently Windows-only. Mac and Linux builds are on our roadmap for late 2026. Subscribe to our newsletter on the homepage to be notified when they launch.
